The Big Berkey is the most popular size that Berkey makes. It holds enough water to satisfy 2 to 3 people, and it's unobtrusive size fits easily in most kitchens.

The Big Berkey can hold up to 4 Black Berkey filters, but can be used with only 2 filters by plugging the extra filter holes. (Two plugs are included.) The advantage of using 4 filters in the system is that it will filter the water faster. However, many of our customers choose to only use 2 filters at a time, and find that it's sufficient for their needs. Each set of 2 Black Berkey filters will purify 6000 gallons. The standard system comes with 2 Black Berkey filters. Please use our filter calculator to get an estimate of how long your Black filters will last.

The Big Berkey is also capable of reducing fluoride in your water when used with Berkey's optional PF-2 fluoride filters. The fluoride filters screw onto the Black filters.

The Big Berkey is powerful enough to purify stagnant pond water, yet perfect for everyday use. Because it works by gravity, it requires no electricity to operate. The system is very easy to operate. Simply pour your unfiltered water in the top chamber. Gravity pushes the water through the filters and your purified water is stored in the bottom chamber.

The unit has a height of 19", and a diameter of 8.5". It is made of grade 304 polished stainless steel. The system has a water storage capacity of approximately 2.25 gallons.

The Black Berkey filters used in the Big Berkey will reduce or remove pathogens, parasites, herbicides, pesticides, VOC's, heavy metals, as well as bad tastes and odors. Black Berkey filters can be cleaned by using a scotch brite pad under running water.

*Lifetime warranty applies to stainless steel tanks, lid, lid knob, plugs, and plastic spigot. Lifetime warranty does not cover any filters nor any accidental damage. Black Berkey filters have a 2 year pro-rated warranty.

Great size for our family of 3 (adults)

We purchased the big berkey for the same reasons everyone else does; We wanted to purify our drinking water. We have been spending a couple hundred a year on filters for the fridge and were not happy with resulting water. We were very impressed with the taste and smoothness of the water after being purified. We used 2 black and 2 fluoride filters in it. The water is ready whenever we need it. Every evening we fill the tank and in the morning its ready to go. My husband loves the way the coffee tastes with the clean crisp berkey water. When deciding which size to get I was concerned about having enough water for 3 adults. The big berkey was the right size for us. We also bought the sight spigot, so we know when to add more water. It really helps. We are very happy with the purchase & would purchase again.

I cannot believe the taste of clean water after years of commercial tap water. I drink it now! Coffee and tea taste so much better. I know that the chemicals are gone and this is so much more healthy.

I've seen a lot of reviews where people said this doesn't work to well. I took a leap and ordered it anyway. I can tell a difference, the work tastes like spring water. My boyfriend even said it's delicious and he'll drink more water now. My main reason buying this was so my son could have a future a little less toxic then mine. The only downfall of this is putting it together. It took forever to prime the filters....because I didn't read the entire directions and had my baby in my arms. If you put it together correctly and won't leak. And the spigot isnt a problem for me and the filters are secure. Very happy with this product. As for does it really filter, I'm not sure yet, however, my father works at a waste water plant and already said he'd test it for me.

Just what I was looking for

Berkey is easy to set up and nice looking. The water is INCREDIBLE. Tastes like mountain spring water. Even my husband who hates all tap water and would always have to drink tap water mixed with Gatorade loves the plain water out of the Berkey. I feel so much peace of mind knowing I'm not drinking all the pesticides & herbicides that are sure to contaminate our water supply in our agricultural area. Thanks Berkey!

Excellent filter, easy to use, cost effective

I love my new Big Berkey water filter! The water tastes A LOT better than with our old Brita filter, and I have the peace of mind that the water is much cleaner. It's easy to use, and I use it for drinking, cooking, and watering my small veggie/herb garden. The customer service is fantastic, the sales reps are knowledgeable and helpful, and it arrived exactly as scheduled.

Beautifully designed equipment in both form and function. Be sure to get the water level spigot, makes it very easy to see when to add more water.

Big Berkey

The Big Berkey seems to work fine. Set up was fairly easy EXCEPT that priming the filters was not nearly as easy as they portrayed. The o-ring that they provide to help force the water through the filter did not cover the faucet because my faucet has little notches around the center ring so the water was just forced out the side. I ended up jerry-rigging a much more tedious and time-consuming system. Once that was done though, everything else was easy. Also appreciated the customer service from GetBerkey.
