The Big Berkey is the most popular size that Berkey makes. It holds enough water to satisfy 2 to 3 people, and it's unobtrusive size fits easily in most kitchens.

The Big Berkey can hold up to 4 Black Berkey filters, but can be used with only 2 filters by plugging the extra filter holes. (Two plugs are included.) The advantage of using 4 filters in the system is that it will filter the water faster. However, many of our customers choose to only use 2 filters at a time, and find that it's sufficient for their needs. Each set of 2 Black Berkey filters will purify 6000 gallons. The standard system comes with 2 Black Berkey filters. Please use our filter calculator to get an estimate of how long your Black filters will last.

The Big Berkey is also capable of reducing fluoride in your water when used with Berkey's optional PF-2 fluoride filters. The fluoride filters screw onto the Black filters.

The Big Berkey is powerful enough to purify stagnant pond water, yet perfect for everyday use. Because it works by gravity, it requires no electricity to operate. The system is very easy to operate. Simply pour your unfiltered water in the top chamber. Gravity pushes the water through the filters and your purified water is stored in the bottom chamber.

The unit has a height of 19", and a diameter of 8.5". It is made of grade 304 polished stainless steel. The system has a water storage capacity of approximately 2.25 gallons.

The Black Berkey filters used in the Big Berkey will reduce or remove pathogens, parasites, herbicides, pesticides, VOC's, heavy metals, as well as bad tastes and odors. Black Berkey filters can be cleaned by using a scotch brite pad under running water.

*Lifetime warranty applies to stainless steel tanks, lid, lid knob, plugs, and plastic spigot. Lifetime warranty does not cover any filters nor any accidental damage. Black Berkey filters have a 2 year pro-rated warranty.

THE ONLY WAY TO DRINK WATER

We have been buying 12 to 15 gallons of bottled water a week and hauling them into the house and trying to find places to store them. Now it is so simple and the water from our Berkey taste better that the bottled. Have been telling everyone how good it is. Wish we had it a long time ago.

Easy Peasy and No Electricity!

We were looking for something to remove chlorine and fluoride. This sit on my bay window ledge above my sink and the glasses and dog dish fit under quite nicely and near the sink works for accidental drippage and refilling. I like there is no electricity. Good value. Our daughter bought one too! Tastes like water should, no taste! Services 2 adults and 2 dogs, we refill daily.

Easily assembled, best drinking water ever, and easily passed the red dye test. So cool! I have to say, I'm a family of one, and am so happy I purchased the Big Berkey rather than the Travel. I didn't realize I would be using it for virtually everything, cooking water, plants, cleaning agents, and of course, my drinking water. Takes up nearly the same amount of space, fits four filters including the fluoride filters, and even fits underneath my cabinets. It is beautiful in my kitchen, love, love!! Shower filter is a must have as well!

I have not attached the fluoride filters yet because I wanted to do the red dye test - it passed. I think that the water tastes great! I have a very minor leak around the spigot that I have to address. Otherwise everything is good. If given the option, I would purchase it again.

Water without aftertastes

We were using filtered water from our refrigerator which was better than water from the tap, but now our water does not have any aftertastes. We also feel more comfortable drinking something that we know has been purified of chemicals and other residues. We were especially happy to find a filter that also removes fluoride.

My tap water is so chlorinated that it is undrinkable. I have been looking for a water filter for years that would truly remove all the undesired heavy metals, fluoride etc. This filter is perfect for my family of 4. It is worth every penny. I consider this a health investment and would recommend it to everyone. We can now drink our tap water!

Great-tasting Water!

While we had a bit of difficulty priming the black filters due to the type of faucet we have, we were eventually able to get them primed and installed. Really would help to have some type of rubber funnel that fits securely on all faucets and filters as the water sprayed out everywhere as we're trying to prime. Obviously, this was a big issue for us. HOWEVER, WE LOVE OUR BERKEY WATER FILTER!!! The water is delicious and no longer has the chlorine odor or take. Coffee is grand! Thank you!

Fantastic Filter

I have a well and live close to a river. With all rain we have had and the run off I do not know what effect it had on my water supply. With my Big Berkey I don't have to worry about the quality of the water any more, and my coffee tastes better.
